Thanks, Alec, for the video. Karen Armstrong, who begins it, is one of my favorite writers on religion. She has long campaigned for understanding, compassion, and the Golden Rule among the world's religions.

But the message is not just for religious people. Only by being compassionate, doing to others as we would have them do to us, will this broken world begin to heal.

IMHO, Religious intolerance is the result of one of two things. Ignorance or/and Arrogance!

Ignorance as to one’s own religion, which as far as my knowledge most, if not all, religions promote tolerance to other’s faiths. Not to proselytize but here is what the Qur’an clearly says... ["Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error:…..” (Qur'an 2:256)]

Or arrogance as in what I stand for is the only right and truth, and others have no right to oppose “me”, and if they did oppose, “me” as representing G-d have the right to do ( fill the spaces)… to them… As one scholar once said teaching tolerance, “my” opinion is right with a chance of error, and the other’s opinions are in error with a chance of being right.

I guess the massage for this video should be invitation to defeat one’s ignorance and more importantly, arrogance... or in a positive light you could say... Invitation to self enlightenment and humbleness… I say this while remembering “my” golden rule… G-d is personal, but earth is sharable... Peace to you all...

I'm a child of the sixties. The message is the same: "Why can't we all just get along?"

@Andres - Thanks for the Stumble and Digg. They help a lot.

@Mike - Didn't know that this was Karen Armstrong! Agreed, this is a message for all of us - religious or not. On a macro level, it just makes logical sense to treat others the way we wish to be treated. It also usually feels good to act this way. Funny how all these things come back to each other. Thanks for the info.

@Hany - "Invitation to self enlightenment and humbleness" Love it!!!

@witchypoo - Yes yes yes to you and to Mr Rodney King. What this video suggests is a powerful and simple (though not always easy) way for us all to get closer to that day that we all "get along".

    Appreciate all your comments.

I like the way you've used the footnotes plugin and the blue box at the end of the post. I have included your site on my list for future reviews at http://thesisthemehq.com for your bright idea of these two elements alone.
